Show A Little Commitment
It's June already, the time of year when lots of summer celebrations are on their way - music and literary festivals, green fairs, charity launches and all sorts of big events guaranteed to bring on the feel-good factor and make our world a happier place to live.
Not wanting to be left out, we began our week by launching our very own Sustainable Reading Campaign as part of World Environment Day, which is aimed at encouraging more people to swap and share their books online, and help reduce the millions of books which are pulped each year. We're pleased to say we've already gained some celebrity supporters who all shared their favourite books with us, including Alan Titchmarsh whose book is 'Wind and the Willows' and Chris Tarrant whose favourite is 'Catch-22', which is great news for all of us, as it encourages more people to join our community, coming together to swap and share their books.
June also kick-starts the wedding season, when happy couples everywhere are making their own kind of commitment to a happy life together! So for this month's recommended titles we decided to cast our eyes over the institution of marriage with some tender, funny and scandalous tales from walking down the aisle - and all just £3.75!
The Wedding was the long-awaited follow-up to Nicholas Sparks' classic The Notebook - a romantic surprise that is sure to delight all his fans. Meanwhile in The Wedding Girl the scandalous past of a bride-to-be threatens to catch up with her, just days before the big event. Hope is at hand for those who've not yet found 'the one', in The Marriage Bureau for Rich People - a charming, funny and acutely observed story, this is a book Jane Austen might write if she'd set the story in a contemporary Indian marriage bureau.
Not Married, Not Bothered is a refreshing and hilarious celebration of women and lifestyle which turns assumptions inside out. While over on Chesil Beach a far more reserved and conventional couple are the newlyweds unable to suppress their anxieties of the wedding night to come. For others the wedding night couldn't last long enough, as James Patterson's Honeymoon brings readers a classic Black Widow tale which may just dampen the romantic mood.
