Donna Tartt - little friend
#1 Posted 12/03/2009 11:25:58
Have just finished this book after months as i only read a bit at a time. Really enjoyed it although was a bit dissappointed that we didn't find out for definite who killed robin, or have i missed something. Was expecting it to be revealed on the last page but no luck.

hi stupot, read this book several years and loved it. people rave about the secret history her other book, but i preferred this one, I actually liked the characters whereas in the secret history they were all pretty horrible. can't really remember the ending, but don't think you missed anything, seem to remember it being more about the effect the death had on everyone and was not really relevant who did it. (Hope i'm remembering this right)

Yeah your right i suppose, it would may have been too easy to say who actually did it and wouldn't have made the book any better. How do people write long books like that, it must take lots of skill to keep the characters in character and make it all flow.

I think she took a long time to write this book, there was a long gap between this and her first book, but it was certainly worth the wait. She is writing her third novel apparently but not sure when that will be out, but i'll be rushing out to buy it as she is such a good writer. I was staying in hospital with my son when i read this, long long hours of sitting by his bed a long way from home, reading this got me through!

I LOVED THIS book, it's one of my all time favourites. so full of powerful images, and spooky families. such atmosphere! the secret history is super too, totally different. initially i was annoyed about not finding out the killer but actually it emphasises the stagnant lives of the characters. it's brilliant.

I liked this one, it was the first I read of hers then found a secret history which I did like better - although I agree with the PP who said the characters this is one were more likeable.
