Hi Cornish Girl
Am very sorry but these are not the type I read. It's the old ones I go for 1970's or even 60's, the type which usually have the orange/green cover. Thanks anyway -have looked at your site and it's very interesting. Carole.

Hello Cornish Girl How do you get to book requests please, or perhaps you can just look on my site. Am unable to work this site properly. Carole.

Hi Carole, not sure what you mean by book requests? you have a wish list where you can list books you'd like and then if anyone lists them you can buy! I also love penguin books and am collecting the b format ones with the cream surround,i don't know if you have any,you have lots of books and haven't looked through all of them yet? By the way did you manage to find any of the earlier 70's one's as i think that's what you were originally looking for? It would be good to hear back from you, best wishes,
mary

Hello Thanks to all of you. The penguins I like are the preISBN ones- would consider most if in excellent/good condition as don't like too well fingered ones !

Hi, I have an orange covered one, The Brandons by Angela Thirkell. Pages are tanned and pretty dark at the edges; the spine's stiffened and has a crack in it. That being said all pages are intact and still held tight in the binding and it's not doing bad considering it was printed in 1954 and cost 2/6 originally! I got it in a job lot and it's just lying around so if you'd like it email me diamondlifestylehotmail.com with your address and I'll send it on to you. Seems a shame to have it just sat here. If not no worries I'm sure I'll find a home for it eventually :-)

It is difficult to distinguish one Penguin from another because an old penguin without ISBN orange covered might only be acceptable when to a collector it would be preferable to a gleaming new illustrated back e.g. Rebecca Daphne DuMaurier there have been countless editions and versions varying from large orange penguin no ISBN bound to be fingered, to copies recently produced.

Try going on eBay and typing 'penguin orange' and 'penguin green' in the search box. That brings up quite a few of the old style Penguins at reasonable prices.

Hi Carole ... any interest in George Bernard Shaw plays? I have some Penguin ones that were released for his 90th birthday in 1946 and appear almost unread ... I can dig them out and list them if they would be of any interest ...

I love old Penguins. They are such an important part of twentieth century British literary history.

Hi Carole, I have loads of them (they were my Mother's) but have yet to sort through them and list. They are mostly with the orange covers (plus some greens aka crime ones), pre-ISBN in the acceptable to good category. I will have a chance to go through them at the beginning of August (heading off on a wee break for a week first) and will gladly email you a list of titles/authors, condition & date (if visible). My email address is on my profile if you're interested in dropping me a line. Cheers :)

I'm just about to put Agathat Christie's 'The Mystery of the Blue Train' up for sale in the green Penguin format - a 1952 reprint at price 2/-. It's not in a wonderful condition, but I'm mentioning it for those who may be interested.
