Novel about Egypt
#1 Posted 09/11/2008 16:06:04
I'm going on a Nile cruise next month and love to read about the country I'm in whilst on holiday. Any recommendations? I know the classic will be "death on the Nile".

May I suggest the Christian Jacq novels. They are set in old Egypt but are very enjoyable and give a background to the pyramids and pharoes etc.

I recently read the Yacoubian Building by Alaa Al Aswany. It's very good and was a best seller in Egypt, although quite controversial. Going to try to link by ISBN now...

Another suggestion is the Wilbur Smith series which starts with River God. Again set in the past but a good read.

Thank you, will check those out. Had been thinking about River God but The Yacoubian Building sounds really interesting too.
